The difference

Caught mid-makeover

No filters, no stock photos. Just the same fence, halfway through a visit from Rafael.

Halfway through. Same fence.

Why the spray rig matters

Rough-sawn palings drink paint. A brush leaves it sitting on the surface; a professional airless spray drives it deep into the grain, coating every edge, gap and knot evenly.

That's the difference between a fence that fades in two summers and one that still looks freshly done years later. Rafael masks everything that isn't fence, lays drop sheets, and leaves your garden exactly as he found it, only better looking.

Meet Rafael

The bloke behind the spray gun

You know how hard it is to find a tradie who shows up when they said, does what they quoted, and is actually good company while they're at it? That's the whole business model here.

Rafael is a Caulfield local with 20+ years in exterior painting. One man, one seriously well-kitted spray trailer, and a stubborn refusal to leave a job looking anything less than supreme. He answers his own phone, does his own quotes, and paints most jobs himself, so the person you talk to is the person up the ladder.

FAQ

Fair questions

How much does fence painting cost in Melbourne?

It depends on the length and height of the fence, its condition, and whether you want one side or both done. Most standard paling fences land somewhere between a few hundred dollars and low four figures.

Rafael gives you a fixed, free quote up front, so there are no surprises and no "while we were there" extras.

Do you spray or brush?

Both. Spraying gives rough-sawn timber a fast, even, deep-soaked coat and is the most cost-effective option for most fences. Where overspray is a risk, near cars, pools, render or garden beds, Rafael masks up properly or switches to brush and roller. Protecting your place is part of the job, not an extra.

What paint do you use?

Haymes Solashield, an Australian-made 100% acrylic exterior paint with serious UV resistance, unless you'd like something specific. Charcoal shades like Monument are the big favourite across Melbourne right now, and for good reason: they make the garden pop.

How long does a fence take?

Most residential fences are done in a day, weather permitting. Bigger jobs, two-coat finishes or fences needing repairs can stretch to two. You'll get an honest timeframe with your quote, and if rain shifts things, you'll hear from Rafael before you have to chase him.

Can you paint the neighbour's side too?

Happily, with their OK. A shared fence painted both sides lasts better and keeps everyone smiling over the fence line. Some neighbours even split the bill, which makes it cheaper for everyone.

Do I need to do anything before you arrive?

Just clear loose items about a metre back from the fence if you can, and give any climbing plants a trim. Rafael handles the masking, drop sheets, and protection of paths, plants and render.

Your fence isn't going to paint itself

Tell Rafael what needs doing and he'll come back to you with a free, fixed quote. No pressure, no spam, no "we'll call you back" black hole.
